About Spirit of The Desert Presbyterian Fellowship
Mission Statement
Called together in our common heritage and the Reformed tradition of the Presbyterian Church (USA), the Spirit of the Desert Presbyterian Fellowship seeks to glorify God in witness, mission, study and fellowship. We hold as central to the transforming power of God’s reconciling love revealed in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We affirm the worth of all people and nurture each individual’s spiritual journey and call to service. As agents of God’s reconciliation, we joyfully live and work in the church and in the world for peace and justice and to spread the good news of God in Christ.
Who We Are
We are a progressive fellowship of believers placing our emphasis and work on being a Christ-centered, mission-driven peace and justice Presbyterian fellowship in the Reformed tradition.
We base our understanding of the Reformed tradition on the Book of Order of the Presbyterian Church(U.S.A.), G2.0500, which provides six themes characterizing the tradition. They may be stated as "God's sovereignty; God's choosing(election) of people for salvation and service; the covenant life of the church, ordering itself according to the Word of God; a faithful stewardship of which makes anything created ultimate, rather than worshipping only the Creator; and the necessity of obedience to the Word of God, which directs us to work for justice in the transformation of society."*
We are clergy and laity, retired and still employed, young and old men and women, a diverse, caring and compassionate group of believers, open to all.

We are a mission project of the Desert Hills Presbyterian Church in Yucca Valley as authorized by the Presbytery of Riverside. We organize ourselves into work groups covering finance, worship, mission, communication and hospitality. A steering committee, elected by the congregants, oversees the work.
There is an educational component to our work involving Bible study, book study or studies based upon spiritual or temporal interests. In the interest of our concern for our members, we maintain a "caring connection," a telephone chain, which can be readily in touch wirth pastors in our group who provide pastoral care and oversight for those in need.
Currently there are seven ministers on our staff and an additional 20 guest ministers who volunteer their services so we can contribute over 78% of our income to mission projects throughout the nation and world.
